Hoover left on charge causes fire

Crews have issued smoke alarm safety advice after a house fire in Rayleigh this afternoon. 

We were called to Eastview Drive, Rayleigh at 1:54pm. On arrival, firefighters confirmed it was a fire in a study.  

Crews using Breathing Apparatus to enter the property and used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire by 2:30pm. 

Crew Manager Adam Paterson said: “Incidents like this serve as a good reminder as to why we recommend everyone has working smoke alarms on every level of their property. 

Crews attend road traffic collision on A120

Firefighters assisted at the scene of a road traffic collision on the A120 near Great Dunmow this morning. 

One car trailing a caravan was involved, the caravan ended up on its side.

Station Manager Howard Midwood said: “Fortunately no one was trapped or injured in this incident. Our crews and the police worked really quickly and efficiently to make the scene safe and get the road back up and open again.” 

Crews made the scene safe by 12:22pm. 

Firefighters rescue two casualties after road traffic collision on M11

Firefighters rescued two casualties after a road traffic collision on the M11.

We were called to the southbound carriageway between junctions 6 and 7 yesterday (Sunday) at 3.05pm.

Three cars had been involved in a collision and one was on its side with two people trapped inside.

Crews from Harlow, Brentwood and Old Harlow attended and freed the casualties.

They were left in the care of the Ambulance Service at 3.28pm.

Crews issues bonfire safety advice after incident in Jaywick

Firefighters have issued safety advice after they attended two incidents in Jaywick this morning.

We were called to Alvis Avenue at 12.23am and a crew from Clacton attended.

They discovered that a fire in an unattended incinerator had spread to rubbish and a power line pole. They fully extinguished it by 12.47am.

The second incident, at 2.32am, was a fire in a grassy area at the back of houses in Napier Avenue. Clacton's crew fully extinguished it by 3.09am.

Air fryer fire

Firefighters were called to a kitchen fire in Manor Road, Dovercourt at 11am. 

On arrival, crews reported a kitchen was heavily smoke logged. 

Firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus entered the kitchen and found an air fryer on fire.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and believe it was caused by an electrical fault. 

Vape charger fire

Firefighters are highlighting the importance of staying in the room with devices on charge after a vape left on charge caused a bedroom fire in Chelmsford today. 

Crews were called to Shardelow Avenue, Chelmsford at 9:42am to reports of a house fire after residents came home and saw smoke coming from the upstairs windows. 

On arrival, crews reported that a bedroom on the third floor of a town house was on fire with smoke coming out of the windows. 

Firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus entered the house and extinguished the fire. 

Firefighters rescue 23-year-old horse

Firefighters helped Amber, a 23-year-old horse, back on her feet today after she struggled to stand up. 

Crews were called to a field in Birds Green, Ongar at 10:38am where Amber was found laying down and unable to stand. 

Specialist animal rescue trained firefighters used a our specialist vehicle to help lift Amber and support her weight to help her back on her feet. 

She was left in the care of her owner.

Fire at oil refinery

Firefighters were called to an incident near the Manorway, Coryton at 6.04pm. 

On arrival, crews confirmed that it was a fire in an oil refinery.

Firefighters used a blanket of foam to isolate the fire and extinguished it by 7pm. 

Crews will remain on site to make sure the scene is completely cool and safe. 

A spokesperson from the Coryton Advanced Fuels said: 

“Earlier this evening a fire occurred in a contained area of our facility, which has since been extinguished by the emergency services.  

Firefighters rescue couple stuck in mud

Firefighters were called to a water rescue near Chiltern Close, Colchester this afternoon. 

A member of the public rang our Control Room after they spotted a couple that had gotten stuck in mud in the river’s flood plain. 

Crews from Colchester sent Water Rescue Technicians to help free the pair. 

Watch Manger Ian Ryder said: “When we arrived we could see that the pair were stuck in really deep mud in the river’s flood plain. We used a mud rescue path to get them both back to safety.
