Scrap yard fire

Firefighters were called to an incident at a scrap yard near Northwick Road in Canvey Island this afternoon. 

Crews from Canvey, Basildon (two) and Rayleigh Weir were sent to the incident. On arrival, crews confirmed that there was a large amount of scrap vehicles and containers alight at the yard. 

Incident Commander Russ Freeman said: “Firefighters have done a great job this afternoon to extinguish the fire and stop if from spreading further. 

Road traffic collision - woman rescued

Crews were called to the M11 northbound, between junction 6 to junction 7, in the early hours of this morning after reports of a road traffic collision. 

On arrival firefighters reported that a car had left the road and landed in a ditch, with a woman trapped inside. 

Firefighters worked to release the woman and left her in the care of the Ambulance Service at 5am.

E-cigarettes cause flat fire

A flat has suffered smoke and fire damage after e-cigarettes caught fire.

Two crews from Saffron Walden were called to George Street after a man returned home following a night out and was faced with a heavily smoke logged flat. 

When Saffron Walden's on-call firefighters arrived they reported that the smoke was beginning to spread to shops underneath, and there was a large fire in the lounge.

House fire

Crews were called to a house this morning after neighbours and a passer by noticed smoke and the smell of burning. 

On arrival firefighters quickly broke into the property, which was heavily smoke logged, and found a casualty on the other side of the door. 

Station Manager Russ Freeman said:

"Canvey Island's crew were the first on scene and were immediately faced with a very difficult situation; a developing fire and a casualty. 

Tumble dryer fire

Firefighters are highlighting the importance of working smoke alarms after a tumble dryer fire in Rayleigh last night. 

Crews were called to Kelso Close, Rayleigh at 10:51pm last night after the residents noticed the power had tripped and the smoke alarms were going off. They found their tumble dryer on fire and dialled 999. 

On arrival, crews reported a tumble dryer was on fire and extinguished the fire. 

Unattended candle destroys bedroom

Firefighters are warning residents about the danger of unattended candles after a bedroom was destroyed in Harlow. 

Crews were called to a house fire in Barn Mead, Harlow at 4:18pm when neighbours called after hearing smoke alarms going off. 

On arrival, crews reported that a bedroom was 100% smoke logged. 

Firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus entered the bedroom and extinguished the fire. 

Crews believe the fire was caused by an unattended candle. 

Kitchen fire - no working smoke alarms

Firefighters are highlighting the importance of having working smoke alarms on every level of your home after a kitchen fire in Basildon this morning.

Crews were called to Wayletts, Basildon at 4am after the residents woke up to a smoke filled house. 

On arrival, firefighters confirmed that the house was heavily smoke logged with a fire in the kitchen. 

Crews wearing Breathing Apparatus entered the house and found a pan on fire on the hob.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to ventilate the property.
