Fire destroys two homes in Southend

Firefighters were called to a flat in Southend this afternoon after a fire spread into a flat in Lundy Close.

Crews were called to Lundy Close, Southend, at 1:05pm after neighbours heard alarms sounding in an adjacent flat. They then worked quickly to alert the occupant and get him to safety and evacuated nearby properties while our crews made their way to the incident.

Water Rescue

Firefighters rescued a man from this lorry after the vehicle was trapped in a flood of rising water on Wallasea Island today.

Crews, including our water rescue team from Orsett, were called to Creeksea Ferry Road and managed to get the driver to safety.

Firefighters rescue horse

Firefighters helped to rescue a large horse today after he fell in a ditch and couldn’t get out.

Crews were called to Stonewall Road in Roxwell just after 11am to help rescue a horse - weighing approximately 850 kilograms - from a ditch.

Specially trained animal rescue firefighters from Chelmsford Fire Station worked with firefighters from Leaden Roding Fire Station to make a plan to rescue the horse while waiting for a vet to assess him.

PHOTO: Bonfire embers spread to shed and fences

Firefighters are advising residents to avoid having bonfires during windy weather after embers from a bonfire caught a shed and fence panels alight today.

Crews from Shoeburyness and Southend fire stations were called to Wakering Road at 12:40pm to a well developed fire that had spread to a shed, fence panels and number of plastic containers.

Firefighters requested a second crew from Southend Fire Station to help extinguish the spreading fire.

The area was heavily smoke logged and crews worked to extinguish the fire by 1:20pm.

PHOTOS: Man rescued from overturned digger

Firefighters rescued a man who was trapped in an overturned digger.

Crews from Harlow and Loughton were called to Roydon Road, Harlow on Monday (21 February) at 3.21pm.

A digger had fallen down an embankment, overturned and left the driver trapped inside.

Firefighters used ladders and ropes to reach and stabilise the casualty, a man in his fifties, and worked with paramedics to rescue him by 4.16pm. He was conscious and breathing and was left in the care of medics.

Garage fire

Crews extinguished a garage fire and stopped it spreading to an adjacent thatched cottage.

Firefighters from Chelmsford were called to reports of a fire in Larks Lane, Great Waltham yesterday at 8.09pm.

Neighbours had spotted the smoke and raised the alarm and crews found a timber-framed garage alight.

Watch Manager Mark Curtis said: "Bearing in mind it was only a couple of metres from a thatched roof, crews did a fantastic job in quickly containing and extinguishing the fire.

Flat fire

Firefighters were called to a flat fire in Milford Road in Grays last night.

On arrival, crews reported that a flat on the first floor was heavily smoke logged with smoke alarms going off.

Crews entered the property and extinguished the fire which they believe was caused by an electrical fault while a battery was charging.

A man was left in the care of the Ambulance Service after suffering with smoke inhalation.

The flat was heavily smoke damaged.

Man freed from car in Grays

Firefighters freed a man this morning, when his car left the road and got stuck on an embankment.

Crews were called to a road traffic collision which happened at around 10:00am today.

On arrival, firefighters reported that car had left the roadway and a man was trapped in his vehicle, but fortunately had no injuries.

Crews used specialist equipment to release the man by 10:18am.

Mum and daughter rescued after car stuck in mud

Firefighters rescued a woman and her daughter after their car got trapped in mud.

On-call firefighters from Hawkwell were called to Murrels Lane, Hullbridge today (Tuesday 1 March) at 12.20pm.

A woman had driven down a narrow track and got stuck in mud which was so deep that she could not open her door. 

It took crews almost 30 minutes to find her because she was not able to accurately describe her location.

Firefighters save man's life after medical emergency

On-call Firefighters saved a man's life after they were alerted to a medical emergency.

Gary Walker, Neil Mack and Lee Broady were at Saffron Walden Fire Station ahead of taking part in a vigil for Ukraine in the town's Jubilee Gardens.

While they were getting ready, a member of the public knocked on the door to ask for their help, today (Thursday 3 March) at 6.06pm.

Crew Manager Gary Walker said: "We were about to leave to attend the vigil when a young woman came running in and said a man had collapsed and was unconscious in a nearby pub.
