PHOTOS: Field fire near M25

Update 6:30pm

Essex crews have left the scene of this incident.

Five crews from Essex were called to assist on the border of London, Herfordshire and Essex on the M25 between Junction 26-25 where ten crews from London and two crews from Herfordshire were dealing with a field fire that had spread.

Crews worked together to surround the fire and are now monitoring hotspots.

Bungalow fire

An investigation into the cause of the fire found it was accidental.

UPDATE 11.45am

A fire investigation is underway following this morning's bungalow fire in St Lawrence.

Crews were called at 6.02am and worked hard to fully extinguish the fire by 8.36am.


Crews are dealing with a bungalow fire in St Lawrence this morning.

Firefighters from Burnham, Tollesbury, Maldon and Chelmsford's Aerial Ladder Platform were called to Mountview Crescent today at 6.02am.

PHOTOS: Firefighters rescue dog during kitchen fire

Firefighters rescued a dog during a kitchen fire in Rochford.

Crews were called to a kitchen fire in Parklands, Rochford at 3:34pm after neighbours called us when they heard smoke alarms going off.

On arrival, crews worked to rescue a dog from the property and extinguished the fire by 4:04pm.

The fire destroyed the kitchen but was prevented from spreading throughout the house due to the resident closing all of the doors within the property before going out for the day.

The dog was unharmed during the incident and left in the care of its owner.

Grass fire near the A13

Firefighters were called a grass fire on the A13 at the Five Bells roundabout in Pitsea this afternoon.

Our Control Room took 55 calls to the incident and sent crews from Basildon, Rayleigh Weir and Hawkwell.

On arrival, crews reported that grass within the central reservation of the A13 was on fire and worked quickly to extinguish the fire within 15 minutes.

Crews tackle scrubland fire

Crews spent more than three hours tackling fires in scrubland on Canvey Island this evening.

We were called to reports of smoke in the area of Northwick Road today at 5.06pm. Firefighters found trees, bushes, hedgerows and grassland covering about one acre alight. 

Crews from Corringham, Rayleigh Weir, Shoeburyness and Hawkwell attended. Due to the remote location, Corringham's water bowser, which provides high volumes of water, and two off road vehicles were sent to assist.

Field fire in Aveley

Firefighters were called to a field fire on Sandy Lane, Aveley at 3.45pm this afternoon.

On arrival, crews confirmed there was a fire near a farm, which was spreading quickly across dry grass which surrounded it.

Essex and London firefighters worked hard to stop the fire spreading further across fields, with 4 fire crews initially attending before more fire engines were called to ensure the fire could be surrounded quickly.

The fire was out by 6.20pm, with crews working to extinguish the remaining hotspots. No-one was injured.

Crews stop field fire spreading to nearby homes

Firefighters in Grays worked hard to stop a field fire spreading to a nearby row of terraced houses this morning.

Crews reported on arrival that the fire was spreading quickly, having reached shrubbery and the back fences of the homes.

Dave Hogan, Watch Manager at Grays Fire Station, said: "This was a fire like so many we've been seeing recently, with the dry conditions meaning even the smallest grass or wildfire can spread and become very dangerous.

PHOTOS: Firefighters tackle field fire measuring 40,000 square metres

Firefighters were called to the scene of a large field fire in Ongar this afternoon.

Around four hectares - or 40,000 square metres - of standing corn were alight. Smoke could be seen from some distance away.

Firefighters worked hard to surround the fire and prevent it from spreading further.

Please avoid the area and - while we appreciate it's hot today - keep your windows and doors closed if you live or work nearby.

Update 3pm - Thanks to the incredible work of our crews, this fire is now under control.

PHOTO: Firefighters rescue dog from roof

Firefighters rescued a dog in Harlow this afternoon from a residential roof.

Control teams were alerted after neighbours spotted the dog - which had climbed out of a window of the property while its owners were out and become stuck on a pitched porch roof before crews arrived.

Firefighters worked to safely lower the animal using ropes and a high rise bag.

Liam Foss, Crew Manager at Harlow, said: "The dog had managed to get on some furniture, jump out of the window and then found himself on the porch.

PHOTOS: Large stack fire

Firefighters were called to reports of a large fire involving a large amount of hay in White Roding on Saturday evening.

On arrival, crews confirmed that two separate stacks - measuring around 4 metres high and 10 metres squared - were 100% alight.

Firefighters are using a mechanical digger to separate one larger stack of hay to allow them to extinguish it more easily, while also managing a controlled burn of the other stack.
