Firefighters rescued Wallace, a 5-year-old Irish Wolfhound from the River Blackwater in Coggeshall this afternoon. 

Wallace had taken a dip in the river but couldn’t get back out over the thick mud.

His owner Judy dialled 999 and our control room team advised her not to enter the water herself to rescue her dog as she could put herself in danger too. 

Firefighters worked to rescue Wallace by 1:20pm and he was reunited with his owner Judy. 

Firefighters were called to a field fire near Princess Margaret Road, East Tilbury at 2.09pm today.

On arrival crews reported there were several small fires covering an area of around 200m x 20m of heathland.

Crews used hose reel jets to get the fires under control and extinguished it by 3:50pm.

The cause of the fire could not be determined.

Firefighters were called to a garage fire in Old Nazeing Road, Nazeing last night. 

On arrival, crews reported a garage attached to a detached house was on fire and was spreading to the roof of the garage. 

Crews worked with colleagues from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service to extinguish the fire by 10:40pm. 

The garage was destroyed and the house suffered smoke damage.

Firefighters believe the fire was caused by a fault in a boiler. 

Firefighters are highlighting the importance of working smoke alarms after a resident was alerted to a kitchen fire in Leigh last night. 

On arrival, crews reported smoke was coming from the windows in a flat and the smoke alarms were going off.

Firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus entered the flat and found a fire in the kitchen. 

Crews extinguished the fire and believe it was caused when the hob was accidentally turned on and items nearby caught alight. 

The flat has been left uninhabitable. 

We were called to reports of a fire in Stubbins Hall Lane, Waltham Abbey today at 6.28pm.

Crews from Waltham Abbey, Loughton, Harlow (two), Cheshunt (Hertfordshire) and Potters Bar (Hertfordshire), and an Incident Command Unit from Witham attended.

They fully extinguished a fire affecting about 20 cars at a recovery yard by 9.04pm.

Station Manager John Warmann said: "Crews did really well to surround the fire and stop it from spreading because there were 100 or so other cars in the yard.

Crews extinguished a fire affecting a large pile of rubbish near Navestock this morning.

We were called to Murthering Lane, close to the M25, today at 2.55am.

Crews from Brentwood, Loughton, Harlow and Chelmsford attended and found rubbish including wood and electrical appliances, covering an area of around 10 metres by 15 metres, completely alight.

Watch Manager Glenn Jackson said: "Crews worked incredibly hard for more than three hours to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters from Basildon, Leigh and Rayleigh Weir were called to an incident near Lake Avenue, Billericay at 10:50am this morning.

On arrival, crews confirmed that a building, measuring around 15m x 20m, was alight.

Crew Manager Fin Tubby from Basildon Fire Station said: “Crews drew water from a nearby lake to put the fire out but unfortunately a significant amount of damage had already been done.

“I’d like to thank the members of the park team who did such a great job at keeping the public back and making sure everyone was safe.”

Crews have issued safety advice after an electric bike left on charge overnight caused a fire.

We were called to a flat in Derry Avenue, South Ockendon today at 4.08am.

Two crews from Grays attended and found a fire in the lounge of a two-storey property.

Crew Manager Scott Gregory said: "The occupant had left an electric bike on charge and either the bike caught fire or the batteries exploded.

"Please don't leave items charging overnight or unattended, and make sure you use chargers supplied by the manufacturer.

Firefighters are urging drivers not to take any risks on flooded roads after crews rescued five people on The Strood, West Mersea today. 

Crews were called to The Strood, West Mersea at 1:47pm after two cars became trapped in the rising tidal water. 

Water rescue trained crews worked to rescue one person from their car and four people in a van.
