Firefighters tackle huge field fire

Firefighters were called to a field fire in Woodham Walter.

Malden field fire

Firefighters worked very hard to contain and extinguish the fire which when they arrived, was rapidly spreading across the field. The field had just been harvested so was very dry and the fire spread quickly through the cut stubble. Firefighters surrounded the fire to ensure the fire didn't spread to homes and buildings nearby.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire by 7:30pm. The cause of the fire was recorded as accidental.

Summer Farm Fire Safety

Around 72% of Essex is rural with 350, 000 residents, 22,500 businesses and 250,000 hectares of farmed land.

Farm fires can be devastating, resulting in the loss of machinery, livestock, stores of hay and straw, and the destruction of buildings. A serious fire on a farm can affect the financial stability of even the most well run business.

During the summer months, farms become even more vulnerable to fire. The combination of hot dry weather and harvest season often increases the risk of fire. Find out more how you can protect your farm this harvest season.
