Firefighters have given their safety advice after a Lithimium-ion battery left on charge caused a fire.

The resident heard their smoke alarms going off and quickly shut the kitchen door before leaving the house and calling the Fire Service.

Two crews from Dovercourt Fire Station were called to Harcourt Avenue in Dovercourt at 7:45pm and found the kitchen was smoke logged after the battery had exploded and set fire to the kitchen cupboards and had burnt the floor.

Crews extinguished the fire and ventilated the kitchen by 8:25pm.

Firefighters helped Bert, a 26-year-old horse back onto his feet today after he had collapsed in his stable in Hawkwell.

Firefighters from Hawkell were joined by animal rescue trained firefighters from Chelmsford Fire Station and Great Baddow Fire Station to help move Bert out of his stable using a sled.

Once Bert was in an open area, the team used specialist rescue equipment to help him on his feet by 2:40pm and he happily trotted off.

He was left in the care of his owner.

Firefighters have given their safety advice after a shed and fence panels were destroyed in an electrical fire in Tilbury.

An electric scooter battery had overheated and set fire to the shed.

Firefighters extinguished the fire by 9:15pm.

Watch Manager Kev Hercock from Orsett Fire Station said: “Take care when using chargers, especially for products with Lithium-ion batteries. Never leave items charging unattended and do not leave them charging for longer than they need to be as they can quickly overheat.”

Firefighters have given safety advice after a flat fire in Chigwell earlier this evening.

The resident had attempted to tackle a fire in the kitchen while cooking when the fire spread out of control. The resident then got out of the flat, stayed out and called the fire service out.

Five other families in the block of flats also evacuated when hearing their neighbour's smoke alarms going off.

On arrival, crews reported that the second storey flat had flames and smoke coming out of the windows and worked quickly to extinguish the fire by 9pm.

Firefighters have praised a Grays resident after she was able to quickly escape her home during a kitchen fire.

Crews from Grays and Orsett were called to a kitchen fire in Grays earlier this evening after the resident heard her smoke alarms going off.

Her usual route out of the house was blocked due to smoke but her escape route out of the back door was clear and she was able to get out of the house, stay out and call the fire service out.

Firefighters rescued a man earlier today who was stuck in his vehicle following a road traffic collision in Chelmsford.

On arrival, crews reported that two vehicles had collided and a man was trapped.

Firefighters worked to release the man by 6:34pm and he was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.

Firefighters were called to a kitchen fire in Clacton in the early hours of this morning after a dog had managed to turn the hob on, causing a kitchen fire.

The residents were woken up by their smoke alarms and got out of the house, stayed out and called the Fire Service out.

On arrival, crews reported that a pan on top of the hob had caught fire and worked to put it out by 4:39am. The top of the hob suffered some fire damage.

Firefighters had a purfect job last night rescuing a cat in Harlow after it had been stuck on a balcony for almost 18 hours.

Crews were called to rescue the curious cat that had ventured onto the balcony and could not get back down.

Using a ladder, firefighters were able to reach the cat, called Tiddles, and bring it back to safety.

Firefighters rescued a casualty who was trapped following a road traffic collision in Waltham Abbey.

Crews were called to reports of an incident involving one vehicle on Woodridden Hill today at 8.16am.

Firefighters worked to release the casualty by 9.05am and left them in the care of the Ambulance Service.

Crews have issued safety advice after a candle caused a house fire in Loughton.

Firefighters from Loughton and Waltham Abbey were called to a detached home in Connaught Avenue today at 12.07am.

A candle which had been thrown out of a first floor window set fire to decking and the fire spread to the kitchen. 

A fire service spokesperson said: "A candle had set light to net curtains in a bedroom. The occupant panicked and threw the candle out of the window and, very unluckily, it set fire to cushions on garden furniture.
