Road traffic collision: woman trapped

Firefighters were called to assist at the scene of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles in Hockley Road, Rayleigh today at 6.31pm.

A woman was trapped and crews from Rayleigh Weir and Hawkwell gave her first aid and stabilised the vehicle.

When paramedics arrived, crews helped to release the casualty and left her in care of the Ambulance Service, at 7.09pm.

Fire affecting two cars and outbuilding

Crews have extinguished a fire affecting an outbuilding and two cars in Stondon Massey.

Firefighters from Brentwood, Chelmsford, Billericay and Loughton were called to Chivers Road tonight at 11.21pm.

They extinguished the fire by 12.38am but remained at the scene to damp down and check for hot spots.

Station Manager John Lloyd said: "Crews did extremely well, in difficult conditions with no water supply, to quickly get the fire under control."

The cause of the fire has been recorded as deliberate.

Cat rescued from fence

Firefighters rescued a cat which was impaled on a metal fence.

A crew from Leigh Fire Station attended Kenneth Road, Thundersley today at 4.36am after a resident heard the cat in distress and called 999. 

Crew Manager Chris Seal said: "One of the cat's back legs had been impaled by a metal spike above a side gate.

"We used our cutting tools to remove the spike just below the point of entry. The resident gave us a crate to put the cat in and we took it to a vet.

Man rescued from mud

Firefighters rescued a man who was stuck in mud on Canvey.

Crews from Canvey, Basildon and Leigh attended Rattwick Drive last night at 11.42pm after reports a man was trapped.

Leigh's Swift Water Rescue crew, working with Coastguards, used a sled to reach the man, who was conscious and breathing, by 12.32am.

They released the man, who had been trapped for more than two hours, and brought him back to the shore by 12.45am. He was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.

Fire affecting caravan and containers

UPDATE 12.22am

The fire has been completely extinguished and crews are checking for hotspots.

A crew will return to check the scene later this morning.

The cause has been recorded as unknown.

Steady progress is being made at the scene of a fire affecting a caravan and four containers.

Crews have accessed and emptied the containers and are turning over and damping down the contents to stop the fire from spreading.

Fire affecting containers and vehicles

UPDATE 11.05PM

Crews have extinguished a fire affecting a number of vehicles and containers in Billericay.

Station Manager Steve Obsorn said: "When crews arrived they were faced with a couple of cars and car transporter on fire, and it had also spread to a caravan and containers.

"The water supply was difficult, due to the remote location, so firefighters had to work really hard to get on top of the fire.

"Thanks to their professionalism and quick response the fire is now under control."

UPDATE 11AM Saturday, 26 June

One crew remained at the scene overnight and officers are now working with the owners to start to hand the site back over. Crews will revisit the scene periodically over the next few days to make sure it remains safe. 

Officers will carry out an investigation into the cause when it is safe to do so.

One crew remains at the scene to dampen down the fire and will remain overnight at the incident to monitor the scene.
