Incident

Car fire Epping - Man arrested

Firefighters attended a fire involving four vehicles in Epping Road earlier today.

We were called at 12.18pm, the fire was out at 1.23pm but firefighters stayed on scene for 30 minutes to dampen down. 

Police are investigating and have arrested a man.

The Essex Police statement is below.


Essex Police statement:

A man has been arrested following a car fire in Epping.

Colleagues in the fire service notified us of a fire in Epping Road at 12.20pm on Sunday 27 July.

As a result of the fire, four cars have been damaged.

The fire was extinguished around 1.20pm.

As a result of a fast-evolving investigation, a man has now been arrested on suspicion of arson.

Detective Sergeant Swarv Stafin said: “I am aware that this is a shocking sight and has caused great concern in the immediate vicinity, but I’d like to reassure the community that there is no wider threat.

“I’d like to thank the fire service for dealing with the incident so quickly to bring it under control.

“We believe that this is an isolated incident and, thankfully, no one has been injured.

“As a result of our enquiries, we have arrested a man. He remains in police custody for questioning.”

This incident is not related to any wider issues in the district.
