Update 8:30am Thursday, 29 February

Two crews remained at the scene until 10:45pm last night monitoring hotspots. A crew visited the scene this morning at 8am to confirm the scene is fully cooled and we're now leaving this incident in the care of the owner.

Update 9:45pm

Three crews have been working throughout the evening with a partner agency to pull material outside of the structure to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters have been working to dismantle the building to fully extinguish hotspots.

Two crews will remain on scene overnight to monitor the scene and make sure it’s fully cooled before leaving.

A fire investigation was carried out this afternoon and the cause could not be determined.

Firefighters were called to a fire in a commercial building in New Hall Lane, Mundon at 10:37am.

On arrival, crews from Maldon and Rochford requested a further six crews due to the size of the fire and a limited water supply.

Our Control Room took several calls to the incident as the smoke could be seen from as far as Maldon.

Eight crews worked throughout the morning and early afternoon to contain a fire in a commercial building and prevent the fire spreading to further buildings at the site.

At 2:30pm, crews were able to scale the incident down to three crews who will remain on scene for several hours working to extinguish the last of the hotspots.

Group Manager Dave Bond said: “Initial crews worked incredibly hard to protect surrounding risks and to contain what was a well developed fire to the one building. Despite a limited water supply, crews have been able to prevent the fire spreading and will work throughout the afternoon to extinguish the last of the hotspots.”

An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place this afternoon.
