Garage fire spreads to house

Crews have extinguished a fire which started in a garage and spread to a house.

We were called to Celandine Close, Billericay today at 1.32pm and our Control teams sent crews from Basildon (two), Orsett, Brentwood and Chelmsford's Aerial Ladder Platform.

Firefighters found a garage, measuring about 8 metres long, alight and the fire was spreading to the adjoining semi-detached house. The fire was fully extinguished by 2.54pm.

Station Manager Dave Bond said: "Unfortunately the garage and all its contents were destroyed. However, thanks to the crews' hard work, the damage caused to the house was limited."

It is believed the fire was caused by an electrical fault.
