Firefighters tackle garage fire in Mayland
Our firefighters tackled a fire in Mayland Close, Mayland, this morning.
Crews arrived at the scene to find the garage fully alight.
They acted quickly to stop it spreading to neighbouring property. Neighbouring residents were asked to keep doors and windows shut due to smoke in the area.
The fire was extinguished by 8.40am and crews remained on scene to dampen down hotspots.
Station Manager, Ben Stapleton, said: “Firefighters worked well to bring the fire under control and prevent escalation to surrounding property.
"The garage, which was a single-storey timber-framed structure measuring 5m by 20m, was unfortunately 100 per cent damaged by fire.
"We are grateful to a resident who assisted firefighters with a Telehandler (a heavy lifting vehicle similar to a forklift with an extendable arm), which helped us tackle the fire more effectively.”
