Fire in pizza takeaway restaurant

Firefighters were called to a fire in a pizza takeaway restaurant in Stanway this morning. The fire was contained to the building and nobody was injured.

Two crews were called to Peartree Road, Stanway at 9:09am to reports of a fire in a kitchen.

Crews worked to put the fire out and prevent it spreading to neighbouring units.

An investigation carried out to determine the cause of the fire found it was caused by an electrical fault in a fridge.

Station Manager Nick Singleton said: “This incident highlights the need for businesses to regularly review Fire Risk Assessments they have in place. The staff today had a good understanding of their Fire Risk Assessment and emergency plan and were able to act quickly to evacuate the building safely.”
