Fire in hotel room
Crews were called to a hotel after reports of smoke coming from a ground floor bedroom.
On arrival firefighters reported that the room was completely smoke logged and worked to extinguish the fire by 10.55am.
Guests and staff were evacuated and there were no reported injuries.
Following an investigation, Essex Police has issued the following statement:
"A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson endangering life following a fire at the Bell Hotel in High Road, Epping.
"A resident at the hotel was arrested after we were called shortly before 11am today (Saturday 5 April).
"He is currently in custody.
"We do not believe anyone has been hurt and our enquiries are ongoing.
