Field fire in Little Burstead

Crews have extinguished a field fire in Little Burstead.

We were called to Common Road today at 4.13pm and crews from Brentwood, Chelmsford, Corringham and Grays (two) and an off road vehicle from Billericay attended.

Group Manager Pete Donovan said: "Crews worked really hard in extremely hot conditions and farmers helped by working with us to create firebreaks.

"Thanks to everyone's hard work, we were able to protect surrounding fields and extinguish the fire."

The fire was extinguished shortly after 6pm and crews remained at the scene to check for hotspots.

An investigation will be carried out to establish the cause.

How farmers can support us during wildfires:

1. Use what3words for reporting fires

In rural areas, addresses and farm names aren’t always enough. what3words gives a precise 3 metre by 3 metre location. When every second counts, this helps us get to the right spot, fast.

2. Work with us on fuel breaks

If a wildfire approaches, we may ask for your help to create fuel breaks using ploughs or machinery. This must be done under direction from fire officers to ensure safety and coordination.

3. Tell us about controlled burns

Planning a bonfire or other controlled fire? Let us know. This prevents false alarms and allows us to monitor if necessary. A quick phone call could save resources being sent to a non-emergency.
