Field fire

Update 6pm 

Group Manager Marc Diggory said: "Crews have worked hard to extinguish the fire and stop it from spreading to nearby properties. We're in a position now to downscale the incident. Crews will remain at the scene for the next few hours to dampen down hotspots. We're looking to lift road closures soon." 

The fire spread to one out building. No one has been injured. 

Firefighters from Rayleigh, Basildon (two), Leigh, Wickford, Hawkwell, Southend (two), Billericay, Brentwood, Grays and Corringham are currently at the scene of a field fire near Amersham Court, Rayleigh.

It is approximately 3 hectares of standing crop alight. 

There is smoke blowing over the A129 and A1245, please drive carefully.
