Crews stop fire caused by pizza oven spreading to house

Crews have issued safety advice after a fire spread from a pizza oven to a fence and then to a house in Loughton.

We were called to The Croft today (Saturday 14 June) at 2.35am and crews from Loughton and Epping attended.

Watch Manager Glenn Jackson said: "We believe embers from a pizza oven set a fence alight and the fire travelled along the fence to the house.

"Thankfully the occupant woke up, noticed the fire, got out and called 999.

"Crews did a fantastic job in stopping the fire from spreading and limiting the damage to the house."

Crews gave the occupant oxygen after he breathed in smoke.

They took part of the roof apart to make sure the fire was fully extinguished and used a fan to clear the smoke. The fire was extinguished by 3.52am.

Watch Manager Jackson said: "The incident highlights how important it is to make sure embers, whether it's a pizza oven, barbecue or fire pit, are completely out. Once they are cool, dispose of them safety.

"In addition, set your fire well away from anything that might catch fire like a fence, shed or decking."
