Crews issue advice after kitchen fire
Crews have issued safety advice after an item left on charge caused a kitchen fire.
We were called to Eight Ash Green today (Sunday 3 August) at 1.50pm and two crews from Colchester and one from Wivenhoe attended.
The kitchen was fully alight and smoke had filled the house.
Watch Manager Scott Maclean said: "The occupants had left a battery powered air compressor on charge and unfortunately it ignited and set fire to the kitchen.
"A family member heard the smoke alarm, even though they were outside, and called 999.
"Sadly, because all of the doors were open, the smoke spread throughout the house. If you're going out, even for a short amount of time, we would urge you not to leave items on charge and to close internal doors."
Firefighters extinguished the fire by 2.34pm.
