Crews issue advice after barbecue causes garden fire
Crews have issued safety advice after a barbecue started a garden fire.
We were called to Grantham Avenue, Great Notley yesterday (Friday 13 June) at 5.33pm.
Crews from Great Dunmow and Wethersfield attended and found a shed and fence alight. They extinguished the fire by 6.10pm.
Crew Manager Adam Stevenson said: "It appears the barbecue was set to close to the shed and set it alight.
"The fire spread to the fence, but crews did a great job in stopping it from spreading and affecting the houses, other than some damage to the base of the roof (fascia and soffits).
"If you're having a barbecue this weekend, make sure you follow our advice and stay safe."
- Set your barbecue well away from anything the might catch light
- Never leave your barbecue unattended
- Make sure it is completely extinguished before you leave it.
