Shoeburyness Fire Station begins refurbishment work

Work to refurbish and modernise Shoeburyness Fire Station has started. 

In April 2019 Essex County Fire and Rescue Service bought the former police station next door with a view to using the extra space to improve the station’s facilities. 

Plans for the on-call fire station focus on making the most effective use of the additional space and ensuring firefighters have effective meeting, training and maintenance areas. 

Between now and January 2021 the planning and design stage will continue, ahead of visible building work changes starting from March 2021.

The work is due to be complete by March 2022. 

Station Manager Kerry Taylor said:

“To see an on-call fire station like this expanding to ensure it continues to meet the needs of firefighters and the community it serves is really exciting.

"Of course, our priority is to ensure that the work does not stop us responding to emergencies, and so our main message is that we are still open and, as always, will be there when you need us.”

Watch Manager Ian Lighton added:

“We’re so proud of the role we carry out within our community, and would love to see more people join Shoeburyness Fire Station as on-call firefighters.
