Fire Service fits more than 1,450 smoke alarms during pandemic
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service fitted 1,464 smoke alarms between March and July including 154 sensory smoke alarms.
Do you have working smoke alarms in your home? They are proven life-savers and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service wants every home in Essex to have working smoke alarms.
The Service offers a free home fire safety visit to anyone without working smoke alarms and people who need sensory smoke alarms.
During the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Home Fire Safety team adapted quickly to ensure it could reach the most vulnerable people in the county. A total of 1,062 vulnerable people have had their fire risk reduced after a visit from the Fire Service since March 2020.
Since March, the Service has fitted 1,464 smoke alarms to Essex homes and a further 154 sensory alarms to people with hearing and sight impairments.
During a home fire safety visit, the Service will visit your home to talk to you about any fire risks in the home and how to reduce the risk of fire. They will test your smoke alarms and fit new ones if yours do not work.
The Service also carries out Safe and Well visits to people most vulnerable to fire and as well as fitting smoke alarms or sensory detectors, the Service will give fire safety and burglary prevention advice. If needed, the Service will make referrals to support agencies if there are any concerns for the person’s health and wellbeing.
