Dovercourt Fire Station holds first training course

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service has held its first on-call firefighter training course at Dovercourt Fire Station.

Seven trainee on-call firefighters began their training at Dovercourt Fire Station on Monday, 9 November and have completed a two-week intensive training course before they continue their training at stations in North Essex.

The team was welcomed into the fire service on their first day by Jo Turton, Chief Fire Officer / Chief Executive at Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex.

Jo Turton, Chief Fire Officer / Chief Executive at Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: “I’d like to thank our seven trainee on-call firefighters for their commitment to their local communities. Our on-call firefighters make a real difference to how we respond to emergency calls and bring with them a wealth of experience from their day jobs and lives outside of the fire service that helps us to keep people safe.

“Holding a course at Dovercourt Fire Station is a first for us and has enabled us to train local people in their local area and for some of our recruits, they are training at the station they will work in and alongside serving on-call firefighters.

“Dovercourt Fire Station recently converted from day crewed to an on-call fire station and is led by a fantastic group of firefighters who are committed to the town they live and work in. Their dedication is helping to make Dovercourt a safe place.”

Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex said: “It’s great to meet our new recruits and I really do wish them well in their training, it’s good to have them with us. They will make an invaluable difference not only to their local community but to our fire service too with the wealth of experience and different perspectives that they bring with them. I look forward to welcoming them officially at the end of their training.”

Three of the seven recruits will be based at Dovercourt Fire Station, two will be based at Clacton Fire Station, one at Frinton Fire Station and one will be based at Manningtree Fire Station.

After completing their two week intensive phase of their training course, the firefighters were welcomed into the North East by Group Manager Simon Dedman.
