Canvey Island Fire Station holds its first training course

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is holding its first on-call firefighter training course at Canvey Island Fire Station.

Nine trainee on-call firefighters began their training at Canvey Island Fire Station on Monday, 5 July and will take on a two-week intensive training course before they continue their training at fire stations in Canvey Island, Corringham, Wickford and Shoeburyness.

Following a recent recruitment campaign in Canvey Island, more than 30 candidates expressed their interest in the role of an on-call firefighter at Canvey Island Fire Station and four of those candidates are part of the station’s first training course.

Station Manager Al Green from Canvey Island Fire Station said: “We’re really excited to hold our first ever training course at Canvey Island Fire Station. We’ve got four new recruits coming to Canvey Island Fire Station and it’s great for our new recruits to train at the station they will be serving at and with colleagues they’re set to work with in their careers.

“It’s also great for our local community to see our fire station being used for training and I’d encourage anyone interested in joining our team at Canvey to get in touch. We’re happy to chat to you about the role and answer any questions you might have.”
