Firefighters have issued advice after sunlight on a mirror was believed to have caused a fire that damaged two outbuildings in Southend earlier today.
Crews were called to Stadium Road, Southend to reports of an outbuilding fire.
On arrival, crews reported that an outbuilding fire has spread to an outbuilding next door and worked to extinguish the fire by 12:30pm.
The fire is believed to be caused by a mirror in the sunlight that caught cladding on the outbuilding alight.
Watch Manager Mark Petty-Mayor from Southend Fire Station said: “Please be aware that glass and mirrors can reflect heat, especially around the house and garden. Mirrors and glass on windowsills can quickly set fire to curtains and other flammable objects on windowsills at this time of year.
“Crews did a really good job to stop the fire spreading further.”
