Five crews battled a house fire and stopped it spreading to an adjoining property.
Firefighters were called to Grays Walk, Hutton, today at 4.07pm.
They found a semi-detached property completely alight and smoke coming from the roof of the adjoining property.
Station Manager Craig McLellan said: "The property is being renovated and the man who noticed the fire did the right thing in getting out, staying out and calling 999.
"Crews worked extremely hard to fight the fire and stop it spreading to the second property, which only suffered minimal damage as a result."
The fire was under control by 5.30pm but crews will remain at the scene into the evening to dampen down hot spots.
An investigation into the cause will take place.
