Fire in roof spreads to next door

In attendance: 2 x Southend, 1 x Shoeburyness, 1 x Leigh

Firefighters are currently at the scene of a fire affecting two houses in Jena Close, Shoeburyness.

On arrival, crews confirmed that there was an established fire in the roof of a semi-detached house that had spread to the roof next door.

Firefighters are extinguishing the fire in sections.

This is an ongoing incident and we will provide regular updates.

UPDATE 7:45am

Firefighters extinguished the fire at 7:40am, crews remain at the scene to make the area safe. 

An investigation into the cause of the fire will be carried out later today.


Julian Benson-Ryal, Group Manager, said: "A build-up of rubbish outside has ended up causing a devastating house fire; the roof has been destroyed and the house has been ruined."
