Firefighters were called to the scene of a theatre in Westcliff this morning after reports that a large amount of roofing had blown loose during heavy overnight winds.
The roofing, measuring approximately 10 square metres, was in a precarious position on the north-facing side of the building.
Amid continuing strong winds, firefighters worked alongside police officers to clear the surrounding area and put road closures in place.
Please avoid the area. The junction of Station Road and Milton Road was immediately shut and will likely remain closed throughout Sunday morning.
If you live or work in either San Remo Parade or Lydford Road, please stay indoors as a precaution while work to make the roof safe continues.
The scene has been left in the care of Southend Borough Council and Essex Police.
