Crews were called to a five-storey block of flats after reports of a fire.

On arrival firefighters reported that around 50 residents had followed the building's fire safety procedure and evacuated the building.

After searching the building, firefighters found a fire in an airing cupboard of a second floor flat and extinguished it by 6.17pm.

Firefighters then worked to ensure the fire had not spread through any internal walls as well as clear the building of smoke.

There were no reported injuries.

The flat has suffered fire damage and there is also smoke damage and water damage to a number of surrounding flats.

Fire Investigation Officers will carry out an investigation into the cause of the fire
