Mobility scooter fire
Stour Road, Harwich

Incident Number: 112885
In attendance: 2 x Dovercourt
Crews were called to a ground floor flat after reports of a mobility scooter on fire.
On arrival firefighters reported that the mobility scooter was completely alight and in front of the front door.
Crew Manager Norman Gooch, Dovercourt Fire Station, said:
"When the resident opened their front door and realised their mobility scooter was on fire they returned into their house to call 999.
"By the time they had got off the phone and attempted to leave their house the fire had grown in size - blocking the exit with fire and smoke.
"When our crews arrived we quickly helped the residents to safety, extinguished the fire and cleared the flat of smoke.
"Our advice on discovering a fire is to immediately get out, stay out, call 999."
The house has suffered some smoke damage and the mobility scooter has been completely destroyed.
The residents were left in the care of the Ambulance Service.
The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental or deliberate both possibilities.

Have your say on the future priorities of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service has launched a public consultation - a ten minute survey asking the public of Essex about how our future priorities are delivered.
The consultation is a chance for the local community to tell us what matters to them and what approach they think we should take. The responses will enable us to develop an Integrated Risk Management Plan (IRMP) in the New Year.
