Incident Number: 76068
In attendance: 1 x Basildon, 1 x Rayleigh Weir

Crews were called to a fire in a house in Loxford.

On arrival firefighters reported that the fire was already out, but had been caused by an electrical fault in the washing machine.

Watch Manager Howard Midwood said:

"The homeowner was alerted to the fire by her working smoke alarm. As soon as she saw smoke coming from the washing machine she isolated the electricity, got out and called 999. This was absolutely the right thing to do.

We checked the washing machine was completely cool, moved it outside and made the house safe."
