Essex County Fire and Rescue Service offers a 24/7 service to the press. Our incident database is updated on a regular basis by the media team and we have established a hotline - 01376 570 814 - where you will be able to reach us round-the-clock. If you are not the Media, USE 01376 576000 for other enquiries. We do ask that routine press check calls are not made between 10pm and 6am, because all items of interest will be posted here as they happen. Please note this is NOT a service for the public and press from outside our local area are asked politely to adhere to these guidelines.
Photographs from incidents may be downloaded for publication. These may be used free of charge by all accredited newspapers and media agencies providing they carry a credit to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Breaches of this arrangement will result in an invoice of £70 per image. Our film footage may also be used under similar arrangement.

Details: Hay Alight

Attendance: 1 x South Woodham Ferrers, 1 x Great Baddow
Firefighters tackled a fire in an open sided barn full of hay. The incident commander reported that the barn measured 20 metres by 30 metres and was 100% alight.
Crews used two ground monitors, one spray plate, one main jet and two hose reel jets to tackle the fire and protect surrounding risks.
The fire had been extinguished by 05:50hrs. Crews will be detained approximately an hour turning over and damping down at the scene to ensure that no hot-spots remain.

Details: Mobile Home Fire

Firefighters tackled a fire which engulfed a static mobile home in Takeley. Wearing breathing apparatus and using four hose reel jets and two main jets crews had extinguished the fire by 18:48hrs.
A revisit is set to take place at 21:45hrs this evening to ensure no hot-spots remain at the scene.

Details: Fire in a School
Address: De La Salle School, Gilgrove, Basildon
Attendance: 2 x Basildon
Firefighters tackled a fire in a cavity wall in a school this afternoon. The school had been evacuated by the time crews arrived. Crews used a saw to cut the wall away and gain access to the fire. Using two hose reel jet and two water backpacks crews had extinguished the fire by 13:51.
Firefighter Matt Gower said: "There was work being done on a roof and something fell in the cavity wall starting a fire.
"We had to break our way into the classroom wall to find the seats of fire and then we quickly extinguished them."

Firefighters are tackling a fire in a derelict storage building measuring 10 by eight metres. The building is completely alight. Crews are using monitors to contain the fire an protect surrounding risks.
Update 18:00hrs: An aerial ladder platform is now at the scene and is being used as a water tower to put water on the fire from above. the fire is now surrounded.
Update: The fire was fully extinguished by 19:17hrs. The cause of the fire has been recorded as deliberate.

Details: Bungalow Alight

Firefighters are tackling a fire in a detached bungalow. The incident commander reports that the bungalow is 100% involved in the fire.
Crews in breathing apparatus are using two hose reel jets and one main jet to tackle the fire.
Update 18:30hrs: Three people have been left in the care of the Ambulance Service suffering the effects of smoke inhalation as a result of this fire.
The fire is now surrounded and the incident commander reports that steady progress is being made. This is likely to be a protracted incident and a three pump relief is set to take over at 19:00hrs.
The A13 between Badger Hall Avenue and Runnymede Chase closed in both directions as a result of this incident.
Update: The fire was fully extinguished by 18:44hrs. Crews wore breathing apparatus and used four main jets and four hose reel jets to tackle the blaze.

Details: 25,000 litre Diesel Tank Alight

Firefighters are tackling a fire in a 25,000 litre diesel tank which is affecting nearby buildings. Crews are using two hose reel jets to tackle the blaze.
Update 15:13hrs: The fire has now been extinguished and crews are working to cool the tank involved.
Update 18:45hrs: The fire did not actually involve the diesel tank, it was in a large pile of tyres close to the tanker instead.
Divisional Officer mark Samuels said: "It was a very large pile of tyres which was close to the tank. Crews made sure that the tank was cooled as soon as they tackled the fire. Crews did an excellent job getting on top of this fire as quickly as they did."
