Our incident database is updated on a regular basis by the media team and we have established a hotline - 01376 570 814 - where you will be able to reach us round-the-clock. We do ask that routine check calls are not made between 10pm and 6am, because all items of interest will be posted here as they happen. Please note this is NOT a service for the public and press from outside our local area are asked politely to adhere to these guidelines.
Photographs from incidents may be downloaded for publication. These may be used free of charge by all accredited newspapers and media agencies providing they carry a credit to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Breaches of this arrangement will result in an invoice of £70 per image. Our film footage may also be used under similar arrangement.

Details: Single storey building on fire
Address: Queens Square, Canewdon Road, Westcliff
Attendance: 2 x Southend, 1 x Leigh
Firefighters were called to a single storey building used as a lock-up. The building measuring approximately 5 x 20 metres was 100 percent alight and 100 percent smoke logged. Crews wore four sets of breathing apparatus and used three hose reels to extinguish the fire by 05:37
The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage, ECFRS and the Police will carry out an investigation. -

Details: Factory Building on Fire- cylinders involved

Firefighters are tackling a fire in a field involving cylinders.
Update 16:55hrs - The fire is affecting a factory building measuring 20 metres by 10 metres containing around 40 cars. The entire building is alight and the fire has spread to a nearby field causing field fires over approximately half a hectare.
One acetylene cylinder was involved in the fire but the officer in charge has confirmed that the cylinder has already exploded.
Crews are wearing breathing apparatus and using one main jet and four hose reel jets to tackle the fire.
The fire was fully extinguished by 17:52hrs
Incident Commander-Station Officer Martin Pullen said: "Approximately 30 cars were parked inside the outbuilding when the blaze took hold, causing an acetylene cylinder to explode before the arrival of the fire crews.

"Three vintage cars were completely destroyed and a further 10 cars were damaged, firefighters did an excellent job and managed to prevent the fire from spreading to some of the other vehicles.
"The fire is believed to have started when an ember from a bonfire some distance away sparked a grass fire which spread to the site.
"This incident highlights the dangers of lighting bonfires in dry conditions and how quickly a fire can spread." -

Details: Field fire

Firefighters are tackling a field on fire close to the A13. This incident is ongoing.
Update 15:57hrs - Firefighters have now extinguished the fire. They used nine hose reel jets and seven water back-packs to extinguish this fire.
Station Officer Gary Hastings, officer in charge, said: "This was a fire in 15 hectares of fields, the fire started in one field and spread from there. The wind kept changing direction and taking the fire with it so it spread from the original field into two others.
"At one point it looked as if the wind would blow the fire into the woods but crews were there to stop it.
"Jobs like this over a large area can be difficult but it is thanks to the hard work and professionalism of crews we were able to get on top of the fire and extinguish it quickly.
"Incidents like this show how quickly field fires can spread, crews did an excellent job in containing and extinguishing the fire."

Details: Gas leak and flooding in derelict building

Attendance: 2 x Southend, USAR-1 x High Volume Pump
Firefighters were called to a severe gas leak affecting the top three floors of a derelict building. Fire crews were required at the incident to pump out water from the flooded basement where the gas main was situated.
The water was approximately seven metres deep and crews used ECFRS Urban Search and Rescue-high volume pump to extract the water so that the gas board could reach the gas main to isolate the supply. Crews had dealt with incident by 04:50 -

Details: Road traffic collision-one woman trapped

Attendance: 1 x Coggeshall, 1 x Braintree, 1 x Colchester
Firefighters were called to an RTC involving one vehicle and a pedestrian. One woman was trapped in the vehicle and crews used two sets of specialist cutting equipment.
The woman was cut free from the vehicle by 17:56 and placed in the care of the Ambulance Service. The Air Ambulance was also in attendance at this incident.
