Essex County Fire and Rescue Service offers a 24/7 service to the press. Our incident database is updated on a regular basis by the media team and we have established a hotline - 01376 570 814 - where you will be able to reach us round-the-clock. We do ask that routine check calls are not made between 10pm and 6am, because all items of interest will be posted here as they happen. Please note this is NOT a service for the public and press from outside our local area are asked politely to adhere to these guidelines.
Photographs from incidents may be downloaded for publication. These may be used free of charge by all accredited newspapers and media agencies providing they carry a credit to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Breaches of this arrangement will result in an invoice of £70 per image. Our film footage may also be used under similar arrangement.

Firefighters were called to an RTC involving a transit van, the van had collided with a lamp post. One man was trapped and crews used one set of specialist cutting equipment to release the man by 10:11, the man was placed in the care of the Ambulance Service.

Details: Chalet bungalow fire-woman rescued
Address: Pudsey Hall Lane, Canewdon

Firefighters were called to a fire in a chalet bungalow.
Sub Officer Gary Shinn from Hawkwell fire station reported:
"Firefighters rescued one woman in her thirties via a ladder who was on the first floor of the property. The woman's partner had already jumped from a first floor window, he was unharmed.
"Also inside the property were five cats and five dogs who were all rescued by the fire crews. Some of the cats had suffered smoke inhalation and the crews administered oxygen therapy to them and they were all ok. Crews had worked professionally and carried out an excellent rescue.
"The property had a smoke alarm, however it was not working. It is vital that you have a working smoke alarm, it could save your life giving you an early warning that a fire has started in your home. Smoke alarms should also be tested once a week to make sure they are working properly."
The fire had started in a bathroom and it is believed to have been caused by a faulty power shower. -

Firefighters were called to a fire in a house. Crews wore breathing apparatus and used one hose reel to extinguish the fire. The property was heavily smoke logged and three men aged 33, 34 and 63 years old suffered from severe smoke inhalation, fire crews administered oxygen therapy and they were placed in the care of the Ambulance Service. -

Details: Tractors on fire
Address: Jenkins Hog Farm, Radwinter, Saffron Walden
Attendance: 2 x Saffron Walden, 1 x Newport, 1 x Thaxted
Firefighters were called to three tractors on fire inside a barn. Several LPG cylinders were inside the barn, but were not involved in the fire and moved to safety. Crews also prevented the fire from spreading to 40 tonnes of ammonium nitrate.
Crews attacked the blaze with foam as fuel was involved in the fire. Crews wore breathing apparatus and used two main jets and two hose reels to extinguish the fire by 21:40, a thermal image camera was used to check for any remaining hotspots.
The tractors were completely destroyed by the fire, the cause of the fire is unknown at this stage, ECFRS and the Police will carry out an investigation. -

Details: Two semi-detached properties on fire
Address: The Causeway, Toppesfield
Attendance: 1 x Sible Hedingham, 1 x Wethersfield, 1 x Halstead, 1 x Clare (Suffolk)
Firefighters have been called to a detached property measuring 10 x 5 metres. The roof and first floor are 100 percent alight. Crews are using four hose reels and one main jet to extinguish the fire.
Update 12:57 Crews are continuing to extinguish the fire using two hose reels.
Update 13:48 Crews remain at the incident tackling the fire.Update 15:25hrs - The fire is now fully extinguished. Firefighters used four hose reel jets and two main jets to tackle this blaze.
Assistant Divisional Officer-Greg Keys said:
"The property on fire was two semi-detached houses which were currently under renovation. There was a serious fire in the roof which had spread to the first floor.
"Fire crews tackling the blaze were faced with over head electricity cables arcing and the electricity board was called into to isolate the power supplies.
"Firefighters worked well in preventing the fire from spreading to a thatched cottage which was next door and other surrounding properties."
The fire is believed to have been started accidently. -

Details: Tractor and silage on fire
Address: Toppesfield Road, Finchingfield
Attendance: 1 x wethersfield, 1 x Thaxted, 2 x Dunmow (1 x Pinzgauer-off road vehicle) 1 x Braintree
Firefighters were called to a tractor and trailer on fire, along with a large pile of silage on fire, 15 percent of the 320 tonne pile was alight. Firefighters tackled the blaze wearing breathing apparatus, they used two hose reels to extinguish the fire by 17:49. The farmer also helped remove some of the silage with his machinery. -

Details: Thatched cottage fire
Address: Drury Lane, Ridgewell
Attendance: 1 x Sible Hedingham, 1 x Clare and 2 x Haverhill (from Suffolk)
Firefighters were called to a fire in the roof of a thatched cottage. Crews removed part of the roof to extinguish the fire and reach deep seated hotspots.
Crews extinguished the fire by 01:08 and used four sets of breathing apparatus and three hose reels.
Crews remained at the incident until 03:57 to check for any remaining hotspots using a thermal image camera.
