Essex County Fire and Rescue Service offers a 24/7 service to the press. Our incident database is updated on a regular basis by the media team and we have established a hotline - 01376 570 814 - where you will be able to reach us round-the-clock. We do ask that routine check calls are not made between 10pm and 6am, because all items of interest will be posted here as they happen. Please note this is NOT a service for the public and press from outside our local area are asked politely to adhere to these guidelines.
Photographs from incidents may be downloaded for publication. These may be used free of charge by all accredited newspapers and media agencies providing they carry a credit to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Breaches of this arrangement will result in an invoice of £70 per image. Our film footage may also be used under similar arrangement.

Firefighters were called to a lorry on fire which was 50 percent alight. Crews wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reels with foam to extinguish the fire by 20:05 -

Address: M11, between junction 6 (M25) and junction 5 (Loughton) southbound
Attendance: 1 x Loughton, 2 x Harlow, 1 x Hainault (LFB)
Crews were called to a tanker fire on the M11. On arrival at the scene, the officer in charge confirmed that the incident involved an articulated lorry but it was carrying only dirty water, not flammable product. Firefighters used one hose reel to tackle the fire, which was out by 12:49 hrs. The incident is believed to have been triggered by an electrical fault.

Firefighters were called to a chalet bungalow hit by lightning. The first floor was well alight and smoke logged. Crews wore six sets of breathing apparatus and used two hose reels and one main jet to extinguish the fire by 20:48.
A thermal image camera was used to check for any remaining hot spots. -

Details: Firefighters rescue woman

Firefighters were called to a fire in a bungalow where an 85 year old woman was trapped in her property. Neighbours called the Fire Service when they realised there was a fire in her home.
Assistant Divisional Officer Bob Ramsey said: "Fire crews arrived at the semi detached bungalow to find it well alight. Two firefighters from Leigh Fire Station Red Watch rescued the woman who was trapped and suffering from smoke inhalation.
"Fire crews did an excellent job in bringing the lady to safety and preventing the fire from spreading to the roof and to a neighbouring property."
Once out of her home, the casualty was placed in the care of the Ambulance Service.
The fire started in the kitchen and the property was severely damaged by the fire. -

Fire crews have been called to a storage unit on an industrial estate which is 100 percent alight. Crews wearing breathing apparatus are using two hose reels and one main jet to extinguish the fire.

Crews are making steady progress in extinguishing the fire using two monitors and one jet.

The incident commander reports that the fire involves two industrial storage units measuring approximately 25 x 15 metres.

The fire has now been extinguished, crews used two main jets, three jets, one hose reel and four sets of breathing apparatus. A thermal image camera was used to check for any remaining hot spots. Crews remain at the incident damping down using two jets.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage and ECFRS will carry out an investigation.

Firefighters have been called to a ruptured gas main in a house, the gas main is believed to have been damaged by workmen carrying out work at the house. The national grid is in attendance to isolate the gas.
Firefighters are evacuating the surrounding properties as a precaution.
Update 19:13 Fire crews have evacuated 12 properties in the area affected by the gas leak. The incident is now in the care of the gas board. -

Firefighters were called to a toddler who was accidently locked in a vehicle. The child was safely rescued by crews and the incident was dealt with by 10:46
