Essex County Fire and Rescue Service offers a 24/7 service to the press. Our incident database is updated on a regular basis by the media team and we have established a hotline - 01376 570 814 - where you will be able to reach us round-the-clock. We do ask that routine check calls are not made between 10pm and 6am, because all items of interest will be posted here as they happen. Please note this is NOT a service for the public and press from outside our local area are asked politely to adhere to these guidelines.
Photographs from incidents may be downloaded for publication. These may be used free of charge by all accredited newspapers and media agencies providing they carry a credit to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Breaches of this arrangement will result in an invoice of £70 per image. Our film footage may also be used under similar arrangement.

Details: Fire in rubbish chute

Firefighters tackled a fire in a rubbish chute in the early hours today. The fire led to the eighth floor of the block becoming heavily smoke logged because the chute was open on that floor.
Crews had fully extinguished the fire by 02:00hrs wearing two sets of breathing apparatus and using one hose reel jet.

Firefighters are tackling a fire in a house in North Weald. The officer in charge reports that the first floor is well alight. Crews are wearing breathing apparatus and using two hose reel jets to tackle the fire.
Update 17:07hrs - A family of a man, a woman and two children have been left homeless by this fire, they have also all been left in the care of the ambulance service suffering the effects of smoke inhalation.
Update: The fire was extinguished by 17:08hrs. Crews used two hose reel jets and wore four sets of breathing apparatus.
The cause of the fire will be investigated.

Firefighters tackled a fire in a takeaway restaurant in the early hours today. Wearing two sets of breathing apparatus and using one hose reel and one dry powder extinguisher they had dealt with the fire by 04:50hrs.

Firefighters tackled a small fire in a second floor flat in the early hours today. On arrival the officer in charge reported that 30% of the flat was well alight. An ambulance was called for a man in his 30s suffering the effects of smoke inhalation.
The fire was extinguished by 01:46hrs, crews used one hose reel jet and wore two sets of breathing apparatus.

Details: House Fire

Firefighters are tackling a house fire in Great Saling. The fire started on the ground floor of the two storey detached house, spreading to the first floor and into the roof space.
Crews are using two hose reel jets and one covering jet to tackle the fire.
One man aged 69 suffered smoke inhalation and burn as a result of the fire. He has been left in the care of the ambulance service.
Update 08:05hrs Sunday - Crews fought the fire throughout the night. It was extinguished by 06:15hrs Sunday, firefighters wore four sets of breathing apparatus and used three main jets and three hose reel jets.
A one pump relief remains at the scene turning over and damping down.
The house has been left uninhabitable by this fire.
Update - Senior Divisional Officer Mark Wilson, officer in charge at this incident, said: "Because of the rural location of this incident crews faced difficulties in establishing water supplies so more appliances were called in to help ensure there was enough water to deal with the incident.
"Crews worked hard throughout the night tackling this blaze and will be there for some time on Sunday to make sure that no hotspots remain.
"A full investigation will now be carried out to establish the cause of this fire."

Firefighters are tackling a blaze in a disused pub. The officer on charge reports that the ground floor of the pub - measuring 10 metres by 20 metres - is 100% alight. Crews are using one main jet to tackle the fire.
Update - The fire was extinguished by 15:28hrs although crews will remain on site for some time turning over and damping down.
In all firefighters wore 18 sets of breathing apparatus and used one main jet and four hose reel jets.
A full investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the blaze.
Assistant Divisional Officer Dave Moore said: "The pub was closed undergoing refurbishment at the time the fire broke out.
"Crews were faced with a well developed and rapidly growing fire but did an excellent job of getting on top of it. it is thanks to their hard work and professionalism that we were able to save as much of the building as we did.
"The fire appears to be suspicious although a thorough investigation will take place to establish the cause."

Details: RTC - one man trapped

Firefighters released one man from his vehicle following an RTC which left the car overturned in a ditch. Crews used one set of hydraulic cutting equipment and had released the man by 10:59hrs. He was left in the care of the air ambulance. -

A man died after a fire broke out in his home while he was sleeping in the early hours today.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus carried the man out of the smoke filled house and he was taken to hospital, but later died.
The fire was extinguished by 04:09hrs, crews wore four sets of breathing apparatus and used two hose reel jets.
A smoke alarm in the property was not working because the batteries had been removed.Smoke alarms provide vital early warning of a fire giving everyone time to get out to safety and away from the toxic smoke which quickly fills the home in a fire.
An investigation to establish the cause of the fire will be carried out.

Firefighters are working to stabalise a car which has left the A12. There are three people in the car, although none are trapped and will be able to get out as soon as the car is stable.
Update 14:46hrs - Firefighters used a power saw and a winch to stablise the car and helped the three people out of the car.

Details: Fire in recycling plant

Firefighters are tackling a fire which has affected a machine at a reuse and recycling yard.
On arrival crews found that the machine was completely alight. initially crews were hampered by poor access to water, but using a water relay (in which fire engines take it in turns to leave the site and re-fill their water tanks before returning - crews had the fire surrounded by 17:20hrs.
Crews are using two main jets and are continuing to damp down the machinery.
