Incidents

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service offers a 24/7 service to the press. Our incident database is updated on a regular basis by the media team and we have established a hotline - 01376 570 814 - where you will be able to reach us round-the-clock. We do ask that routine check calls are not made between 10pm and 6am, because all items of interest will be posted here as they happen. Please note this is NOT a service for the public and press from outside our local area are asked politely to adhere to these guidelines.
Photographs from incidents may be downloaded for publication. These may be used free of charge by all accredited newspapers and media agencies providing they carry a credit to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Breaches of this arrangement will result in an invoice of £70 per image. Our film footage may also be used under similar arrangement.

    Attendance: 2 x Burnham

    Firefighters were called to a chip pan on fire in a kitchen.  Crews wore two sets of breathing apparatus and used one hose reel to extinguish the fire by 19:50

    Details: Road traffic collision-car crashes into house

    Address: Fyfield Road, Ongar

    Attendance: 1 x Ongar, 1 x Leaden Roding, 1 x Harlow, 1 x Brentwood, 1 x Chelmsford

    Firefighters were called to an RTC involving a car and a lorry.  The car crashed into a house and the driver was trapped.  Crews used two sets of specialist cutting equipment to release the man by 13:33, he was then placed in the care of the Ambulance Service.

    Attendance: 1 x Leigh, 3 x Southend

    Firefighters were called to an RTC involving two vehicles.  One woman was trapped by her injuries.  Firefighters released the woman working with the Ambulance Service. The incident was dealt with by 10:39

    Details: Fire in school print room

    Address: King John School, Shipwrights Drive, Benfleet

    Attendance: 2 x Rayleigh Weir, 1 x Canvey

    Firefighters were called to a fire in a school print room.  The print room,  located on the ground floor was damaged by the fire and was smoke logged.

    Crews wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire by 06:13, fire crews used a thermal image camera to check for any remaining hotspots.  A high pressure fan was used to ventilate the room and adjoining corridors.

    Station Officer Martin Pullen from Canvey Fire Station said:

    "Firefighters quick action prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the building and contained it to the print room of the school.

    "The print room has been severely damaged by the fire and the adjoining corridors were filled with smoke, firefighters ventilated the area using high pressure fans.

    "The fire is not being treated as suspicious, it is believed to have been started accidently and early indications suggest it to be caused by an electrical appliance."

    Following the fire part of the school is closed today, only Year 6 pupils are being asked to attend for classes, for further information please contact the King John School, Shipwrights Drive, Benfleet.

    ECFRS has no further information regarding the school closure.

    Fire crews were called to an RTC involving two vehicles. One woman was trapped by her injuries and crews used two sets of specialist cutting equipment to release the her by 23:33, the casualty was then placed in the care of the Ambulance Service.

    Firefighters were called to a fire in the kitchen of a house.  Crews wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reels to extinguish the fire by 23:21

    Address: Whitehall Hotel, Church End, Broxted

    Attendance: 2 x Dunmow

    Firefighters were called to a small fire in the roof void of the hotel.  Crews used two sets of breathing apparatus and two hose reels to extinguish the fire by 18:33  Crews used a thermal image camera to check for any remaining hotspots.

    Details: Out buildings on fire

    Address: Weald Bridge Road, North Weald

    Attendance: 1 x Ongar, 1 x Epping, 1 x Old Harlow,1 x Harlow

    Firefighters have been called to a range of out buildings on fire.  Crews are tackling the blaze using two hose reels.

    Update 18:20
    Crews are continuing to tackle the fire using two jets and one hose reel jet, the area on fire measures approximately 60 x 20 metres.

    Crews used two hose reels and two jets to extinguish the fire. Crews are now damping down and turning over.

    Crews have dealt with the incident, the cause of the fire is unknown at this stage, ECFRS and the police will carry out an investigation.

    Details: RTC HGV and Tractor

    Address: A12, southbound between J21 and J20B, Hatfield Peveral

    Attendance: 1 x Chelmsford, 1 x Witham, 1 x Tiptree, 1 x Colchester, USAR Team

    Firefighters have released a man trapped in his cab following a collision between an HGV and a tractor. The cab of the lorry became detached from the trailer and slid down the embankment trapping the driver.

    The man was released from the cab by 15:25hrs. He was being treated by the air ambulance doctor on the road in preparation for loading onto the air ambulance helicopter.

    Update 15:54 -  The casualty cannot be removed by air ambulance because of his injuries. He is being treated by doctors and paramedics at the scene of the accident.

    Firefighters work was completed at the scene by 15:39, they used one set of hydraulic cutting equipment and a trauma first aid kit.

    The accident is causing major tailbacks on the A12.

    Details: RTC - woman trapped

    Address: Mersea Road, Colchester

    Attendance: 3 x Colchester

    Firefighters released a woman from her car following a collision between a car and an HGV.

    Using two sets of hydraulic cutting equipment crews had released the woman by 12:53hrs.
