Working with the Environment Agency to prevent flooding in Canvey Island
A special joint working agreement between the Service and Environment Agency will see crews in Canvey playing a vital role in the island’s flood defences.
Following preliminary tests a number of sites have been identified where ECFRS pumps could make a huge difference in preventing flooding. Possible locations for the crews include: Hilton Pumping Station, Tewkes Creek Sluice, May Avenue Pumping Station, Scarhouse Pumping Station and Thorney Bay Pumping Station.
The fire appliances will be sent to the locations when heavy rain is forecast ready to add their pumping power to the stations and help prevent Canvey Island from flooding.
