Transform lives: Crowdfund a Firebreak

Transform a young person’s life over Christmas by helping fund a Firebreak course.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is currently crowdfunding to raise money for two Firebreak courses. Each Firebreak course is a week-long intensive programme which has personal safety and wellbeing at its core. The courses, which are held at fire stations, enable disadvantaged young people in the community the opportunity to gain vital life skills.

To help raise awareness of the Service’s award-winning scheme, a Twelve Days of Christmas advent calendar is being launched on ECFRS Twitter and Facebook; @ECFRS and

Beginning on 01 December, the calendar will include photos of the young people who have taken part in a Firebreak course.

Young people who are referred to a Firebreak course often experience many challenges in their daily lives. This can include those struggling with self esteem, confidence, bereavement, life limiting illnesses, disability, as well as and those not in education, employment or training.

Donna Finch, Community Development and Safeguarding Manager, said: “We have had amazing results with FireBreak. It has transformed lives and helped thousands of young people. The course has expanded and now helps a wide range of people including the long term unemployed, gifted young people and families which have experienced a breakdown in their relationships.

“This crowdfunding scheme gives everyone in Essex an opportunity to play a role in that success and help people turn their lives around. By giving a little each we can come together and achieve a great deal so please pledge today.”

The fundamental principles of firefighting, including leadership, teamwork, and motivation, are combined with practical skills and scenario based training, classroom centered theory and discussion workshops.

To fund the two courses, the Service is looking to hit a £8,000 target by December 15. To help transform a young person’s life this Christmas, visit the Essex Firebreak Crowdfunder page:
