Rosanna Briggs Awarded MBE
Rosanna Briggs, Deputy Head of Emergency Planning, has been awarded an MBE for Services to Civil Protection in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
While Rosanna performs a valued and important role within Essex Civil Protection and Emergency Management team – a partnership between ECFRS and Essex County Council - developing new ways of engaging with the local communities and in the development of the ‘What If….’ programme, she is also a recognised national expert, working with both the Cabinet Office and the UK Emergency Planning College, where she is an associate lecturer.
Her national role has included working with the Civil Contingencies Secretariat (CCS) on the Civil Contingencies Bill, which received Royal Assent in November 2004. Rosanna was an advisor on the warning and informing element of the Bill/Act
She is Chair of the National Steering Committee for Warning and Informing the Public (NSCWIP) and advisor on the CCS Board on the Alerting Trials in the UK. Rosanna also provides advice and guidance to assist a number of academic institutions in the UK on community resilience and Civil Protection education for children.
Outside the UK, Rosanna is also delivering high profile work. She is the EU expert for the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange (TAIEX) in the field of warning and informing and is currently being assessed as an expert in the field of civil protection for NATO.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer Adam Eckley said: “The Award is well deserved, recognising Rosanna’s commitment and dedication to the field of emergency planning and civil protection over many years, not just locally but nationally and beyond.”
Rosanna, who lives in Hatfield Peverel, said: “I was absolutely overjoyed to receive this recognition. It is certainly not anything I was ever expecting to get, but to be recognised for doing work which I love and am proud of, is fantastic.”
A date has yet to be set for Rosanna to go to Buckingham Palace to collect the Award. Rosanna is still unaware of how she was nominated or who nominated her.
