New FireCar hits the road
A new FireCar has hit the roads of Essex spreading the road safety message to car enthusiasts across the County.
The vehicle is a brand new Ford Focus ST which has been donated by Ford. It replaces last year’s model which has already been used to spread the message to thousands of car enthusiasts. FireCar is used to target cruiser events, where large gatherings of people with modified cars get together to show off their vehicles.
In the same way that FireBike has successfully engaged bikers, the car will be used to pitch safety messaging to young motorists.
Sub Officer Kevin Jenner, RTC Reduction, said: “FireCar is an excellent way for us to engage with young car enthusiasts and help teach them about the perils of dangerous driving. We work with partners in Essex County Council and Essex Police to get the message to this usually hard to reach group.
“The car is used to create a talking point which gives us a chance to give the drivers who attend these cruiser events the information they need to stay safe on the roads. In the coming year we hope to attend more than 100 events.”
