Memorial charity football contest
More than £1,500 has been raised for two charities at a charity football competition in memory of a much-loved mother.
Funds donated during the ‘Dawn Wright Shield’ at the Pegasus Club, in Corringham, on Sunday, July 24, will go to Marie Curie Cancer Care and Macmillan Cancer Research.
The family fun day has been taking place annually since the tragic passing of Dawn Wright in June 2011 and to date, £11,500 has been raised.
Mother-of-five Dawn was married to retired Leading Firefighter Bob Wright. Her daughter, Gemma Kirk, is an ECFRS Control Operator, who is married to Sub Officer Dan Kirk, based at Basildon Fire Station.
Firefighter Darren Banks, who organised the event, said: “All the donations are going to two fantastic charities close to so many people’s hearts. Thanks everyone for all your support.”
The event saw 15 teams compete against each other with the winners being a team made up of firefighters from Grays Fire Station.
There were also teams that included crews from Basildon, Corringham and Orsett.
