Essex County Fire and Rescue Service

Kitchen safety summer roadshows

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service summer safety roadshows have been a success with almost 260 properties referred for home safety visits.

ECFRS is halfway through its Kitchen Safety Summer Roadshow programme - with five more roadshows still to take place across the County.

The Service’s Community Engagement Team have so far talked to residents at four events in Colchester, Harlow, Saffron Walden and Tilbury since July.

In each roadshow, the team gave cooking safety advice to people with the aim of reducing cooking related fires across Essex – with more fires starting in the kitchen than any other room in the home.

Assistant Divisional Officer James Taylor said: “We’re delighted with the outcomes of the Kitchen Safety Summer Roadshows so far and we look forward to future successes at our coming events.

 “We’ve spoken to thousands of people across Essex and have referred over 250 homes for further safety visits, making people safer in their homes while reducing kitchen fires across the County.”

“It has been a fantastic team effort between our operational crews, our community safety team and our external partners.”

Our Community Safety Engagement Team, along with our emergency partners and other organisations, will be at the following locations:

  • Victoria Shopping Centre in Southend (August 16, 17 and 19);
  • Sumners and Kingsmoor Ward in Harlow (August 22 until August 24);
  • Rochford Ward in Southend (August 26 to August 28);
  • Westborough Ward in Leigh-on-Sea (August 30 to September 1);
  • Shoebury Ward in Southend (September 2 to September 4)
