Joining forces to help improve safety for Tendring residents

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and Tendring District Council (TDC) have joined forces and are working much closer together to provide important equipment in homes as part of a new initiative to help ensure residents in Tendring can lead safer and more independent lives.

Both currently attend properties across the District to make assessments of people’s needs - but they will now be making referrals to each other.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service carry out regular Home Safety Visits and from now on they will ask residents if they want to be referred to Tendring Careline for a demonstration of Telecare equipment, monitoring and response service.

And when Tendring Careline undertake their assessments under their scheduled appointments they will see if the person wants a Home Safety Visit from the Fire Service.

If a Telecare smoke alarm is required it will be fitted by the Fire Service as part of a visit.

A special agreement was signed today at Clacton Fire Station by Mark Westall on behalf of Tendring Careline and by Assistant Divisional Officer Richie Farrant for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service.

Paul Honeywood, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Housing Benefits and Revenues, said he was pleased that it had been possible to sign a service level agreement with Essex County Fire and Rescue Service.

“This is a win, win situation for residents with both organisations keeping a watch out for their safety and helping them to live independently for longer,” he said.

“Our residents will definitely benefit from this link-up which is the whole aim of the exercise.”

Station Officer Andre Turner, ECFRS, said: “We deliver thousands of home fire safety visits a year and we know that they are the best way we can make sure people are as fire safe as possible in their homes.

“This partnership will help ensure that we can protect some of the most vulnerable people in the community.”
