Firefighters to cycle across Costa Rica for charity
Firefighters are appealing for donations ahead of a gruelling cycle across Costa Rica.
Basildon firefighters Katie Jacks and John Worsley are taking part in the 500km ‘Coast to Coast’ cycle challenge over 10 days.
The trip, which takes place in November, will take them from the Pacific Ocean, through jungle, across mountains and over dormant volcanoes until they reach the coast of the Caribbean Sea.
The Blue Watch firefighters are looking to raise £6,000 for The Fire Fighters Charity and have so far received £2,000 through two collections in Basildon.
The challenge is not a first for Katie and John – they raised £6,000 for the same charity in 2014 by cycling in Vietnam and Cambodia.
John said: “The cycle is going to be extremely tough. It will be humid across mountainous and volcanic terrains.
“The challenge is one of the ultimate bike rides, there will be stunning backdrops.
“The journey will take us from one stretch of coastline to another and in between will be tropical rainforests, mountain ranges and volcanoes.
“We are both looking forward to the challenge while raising money for such a fantastic cause.”
