Firefighters take on brutal challenge for charity
Three firefighters took on the Commando Shuffle, a gruelling 30 mile navigational time trial used by the Royal Marines in training while raising money for charity.
On one of the hottest days of the summer, Simon Maskell (above left), Andre Turner (centre) and Jon Webster completed the challenge to navigate a 30 mile route across Dartmoor National Park.
Despite the heat and while each carrying more than 35 pounds of weight on their backs, the trio completed the challenge just after 6am on 14 September in 10 hours and 54 minutes.
Trekking the rough terrain is used as one of the final parts of training of marines.
Last year, the total raised by those involved was £2,400 for the Fire Fighters Charity and the Royal Marines’ Benevolent Fund last year.
