Fire Fighters Charity award for Colchester Fire Swim

The Fire Fighters Charity has recognised the huge contribution made by Colchester Fire Swim by presenting the event’s organisers with their highest fund raising honour: the National Certificate of Achievement.

The award recognises the huge contribution the annual sponsored swim has made to the Charity since it was founded in 1981.

Presenting the award Judith Scarborough, Fire Fighters Charity Volunteer Support manager, said: “The event has been running for more than 30 years and in that time has raised more than half-a-million pounds half of which has been donated to the Fire Fighters Charity.

“It is an incredible achievement, there aren’t many events which have been going this long and raised this much money for us. The money they have raised has allowed us to do a great deal of work to help and support colleagues in the fire service.

“The National Certificate of Achievement is the highest award we give and Colchester Fire Swim deserve it for the incredible work they have done over the last three decades.”

Sub Officer Jeremy Tuckwell, one of Fire Swim’s organisers, said: “We all work hard to make sure Fire swim happens every year so it is great to receive this kind of recognition. It means a great deal to all of us to get this award.”

This year’s Fire Swim takes place at Colchester Leisure World on Saturday October 4. Places are open for teams to take part. Each team swims for an hour trying to complete as many lengths and raise as much money as possible.
