Fire Cadets celebrate winning Volunteer Team of the Year Award

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service's Fire Cadets have gone the 'extra mile' to win the Volunteer Team of the Year Award at the My Home Life Essex FaNs (Friends and Neighbours) Awards held on June 27, 2019.

The FaNs charity help to keep older people in Essex Care homes connected to their wider community, which ECFRS' Fire Cadets have been widely involved with.

The winning team, made up of fire cadets who are based at Dovercourt and Clacton cadet units, have been heavily involved in the FaNs charity work in to keeping older people in Essex Care homes connected to their wider community.

The judges commented on the cadets' commitment to supporting residents in care homes to reduce isolation and loneliness, including escorting residents of the care home to remembrance services, cake making and volunteering to support the winter warmer project.

Community Development and Safeguarding Manager Donna Finch MBE said:

“This is a fantastic result for a group of really hard working and committed young people.

"It’s an amazing team effort and I am proud our fire cadets have been recognised with this special award, it shows they have made an outstanding contribution to older people living in residential care and making a difference to people’s lives.

“Well done to all of our cadets on their achievement.”

ECFRS was also nominated for The Alice Bellord Award for supporting organisation of the year.
