Emergency bags to aid families

Families in Tendring unable to return home overnight following an incident will receive a bag containing the necessities to get them through their first traumatic hours.

The ‘Emergency SOS’ bags contain hygiene items, cleansing products, towels and toiletries as well as a map highlighting the key services they will need the following day and places to get free breakfasts.

Over 30 bags have been put together through the Community Builders Project, supported by ECFRS, Sainsbury’s and Tendring’s Citizens Advice Bureau.

People will receive the bags at Harwich and District Community Food Bank, Tendring’s CAB and at Colchester and Tendring Women's Refuge.

ECFRS Community Builder, Les Nicoll, said: “The SOS bags will give families emergency access to the necessities they need to make it through their first night.

“Be it toothpaste and toothbrushes, flannels and wet wipes for cleansing and shampoo and conditioner, we want to help the entire family in their hour of need.

“I would like to thank everyone involved with the project, which is helping make Tendring’s community a safer place.”
