Eggscellent response to Easter appeal
An eggstraordinary collection of 760 chocolate treats will be enjoyed by children in three hospitals in Essex following a firefighter’s appeal .
Halstead firefighter Simon Phillips will deliver the Easter egg haul to young people in Colchester General Hospital, Broomfield Hospital and Princess Alexander Hospital in Harlow.
This year’s collection, which started just over a month ago, is the largest Simon has received since his campaign launched in 2014.
Simon, who has been an on-call firefighter for 10 years, has now collected over 1,600 eggs for children in hospitals across the County.
The father-of-two said: “I’ve been overwhelmed by the support I have received from members of the public, care homes and businesses.
“I have received amazing support throughout the entire County. I’ve had to find plenty of cupboards and shelves to help store the eggs.
“To reach the 1,000 egg mark was fantastic, so I was overwhelmed when we got more than 1,600. I could not have asked for a better response from our communities.
“Thanks to your support, hundreds of sick children will enjoy at a special treat this Easter.”
