ECFRS team completes 24-hr challenge

An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service team have completed a gruelling 24-hour running charity challenge.

ECFRS colleagues Matt Furber, Scott Meekings, Carl Pullen, Diane Kralik and Janette Reed teamed up with retired Divisional Officers Terry Webb and Jon Payne during the HARP 24 2016 challenge at Westcliff Rugby Club.

The event saw the team run 32 laps of 4.5 miles – a total of 144 miles – over 24 hours from midday on Saturday, June 25.

More than 330 people took part in the run for HARP Southend, which aims to reduce homelessness in the region.

Senior Divisional Officer Furber said: “The challenge was extremely difficult with team members having to sleep for small periods before getting up and running again.

“We had individuals running every minute over a 24 hour period, witnessing both sunset and sunrise. It was a tough yet very enjoying experience for a worthwhile cause.”

The ECFRS team raised just over £200 for HARP Southend.
